Tara Prunty
Psychotherapy
Integrative, empathetic therapy that focuses on you and your needs.
HI THERE. I’M TARA PRUNTY.
I am a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellers and Psychotherapists (IACP).
My approach to therapy is integrative which means I largely base how I work off of your needs and what you are coming to therapy for.
I have worked with a variety of people from different cultural & societal backgrounds. Anyone, from all walks of life is welcome in my practice.
I utilise various theories in my work depending your needs, and have experience in working with topics such as grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), self-esteem, sexuality, relationship as well as attachment issues, but am not limited to these.
As part of my work, I am certified and insured to practice with people over the age of 16.

CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) targets negative thought patterns and looks at how the way we think can directly influence our behaviour. Although it has its limitations, CBT works particularly well with high-functioning anxiety and depression. I have noticed a huge reduction in clients’ anxious and depressive symptoms once CBT is utilised and practiced regularly outside of our therapy sessions.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
This type of therapy would more commonly be referred to as traditional ‘talk therapy’ and one in which I use as the basis of my work with clients. It focuses on unconscious processes as they manifest into your current behaviour. More widely understood, it is about bringing the unconscious - conscious for clients, and can be impactful in aiding stronger self-awareness.
Gestalt Body Work
Gestalt Psychotherapy is a way of working with trauma that is held in the body by focusing on our bodies as separate entities to our minds. Because trauma has muscle memory, Gestalt work involves becoming in tune with one's physical body and identifying possibly unexplained aches and pains as well as potential triggers to do with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD for short. Although Gestalt work is body work, because of the nature of it there is no physical contact between myself and my clients.
Trauma Processing
I specialise in trauma processing and have worked with many clients struggling with PTSD symptoms, trauma triggers and have helped many identify and come to terms with the traumatic experiences they have suffered. Although trauma processing can be a long and difficult road, I lead by the readiness of my clients in a consensual and well-informed way. My aim is to facilitate a calm, safe, and respectful environment in which to facilitate healing from trauma for my clients.
Grief Therapy
Grief does not always come from the loss of a person, it can also come from the loss of a job, pet, relationship, home etc. In my work, grief can take many shapes and sizes and all are accepted and respected. When it comes to loss, I believe kindness and giving the client space to express such emotions like sadness and anger freely is the key to working through grief.
Person Centred
Therapy is about working with people, therefore, it only makes sense that I work in a person centred manner first and foremost with all clients. In sessions with me, clients can expect me to assess their needs and goals for therapy, aim to help them achieve this whilst maintaining strict professional and ethical boundaries and do my utmost to create an open, honest, and trusting relationship with them.
HAPPY CLIENTS
The relationship I have with my clients is instrumental in bringing about lasting change and growth for them.
“The only way I can describe Tara, is that she just gets it.
The thing I find most valuable about Tara's sessions is that I always leave feeling like she is on my side, and I know she's in my corner.”
FRANKIE
“Tara creates such a calm, healing, and safe space to talk through issues.
She is always checking in to make sure I feel comfortable and has made such a positive impact on my life.
The best self-care I have done for myself was starting therapy with Tara!”
GOLDIE
“Since I started therapy with Tara my mental health has improved greatly.
Empathetic, actively listened to my concerns, and validated my feelings.
I’m grateful for the support I received.”
